Notes on Europe 10 Yagi
This is the 10 meter yagi built by N8LGP that we took to VP5 on two occasions. Housed in storage on Curacao in the blue PVC tube. Installed July 2001.
21 September 2006
Took antenna down on 21 September with John Shovic and Dana Kraft. Had to cut all five bolts off with grinder.
30 Sept - 1 Oct 2006
Completely rehabbed antenna. Removed all D-shells and scraped, sanded, Penetroxed, cleaned salted bolts, and reassembled with anti seize on all threads. Cleaned boom under all D-shells. Disassembled beta match, cleaned, reassembled with improved salt-proofing. Took elements alart and sanded and re-Penetroxed. Installed element end caps and boom end caps, new, from DX Engineering. Had to use grinder to grind odd bolt heads to be able to get the boom to mast bracket off, which was fused completely in salt. Discarded. Noting on this antenna was bad or inop -- all was just a precautionary cleaning. Taped all element clamps to keep off salt. Taped the coax connector bracket to protect from salt. Coated all beta match tape bundles with ScotchKote. Ready to reinstall after SWR checks.
29 November 2006
After satisfactory SWR check reinstalled on tower with Fred Antoon on tag lines. Weatherproofed all hardware. SWR checks good at power.
